Whats happening at Hillel.....
While many people
in the education world see summer as a long break from school, students and
staff at the Cincinnati Hillel Jewish Student Center kept extremely busy!
Thanks to the hard work of our student interns, Graham Mitro,
Ailyn Esayag and Stephen Lamb, the Hillel staff received a lot of
help getting everything ready for fall, and pretty soon Hillel will be
'open for business!'
Hillel's biggest change this year includes the renovation of the building's
lower level rooms. Countless days were spent this summer cleaning,
organizing and redecorating so that students could have a place to hang out
at Hillel. Now students can watch TV or drink coffee in the new
student lounge, study in Hillel's well stocked library or just hang out on
the patio.
Hillel will also be hosting their annual Back to School Welcome Week with
fun-filled programs to give students the opportunity to get to know one
another and learn more about their Hillel and as always - to eat great
food. Other exciting opportunities for this upcoming year include an
Alternative Spring Break trip to New
Orleans, a Birthright trip next summer and the
addition of 6 new students on Hillel's Board of Trustees.
Some of the returning Hillel students have also chosen this year to revamp
the student leadership board, create a new constitution, hold elections for
positions and even throw an election party. They have also suggested
some idea's for new programming, new community service projects and their
desire to lead Shabbat services. Of course, 'the oldies but goodies'
programs are there as well including themed Shabbat dinners, Falafel and
Friends with two Chaverot M'Israel,
and Matzah Ball Mondays featuring Lizzy's 'world famous Matzah
Balls. "They are the best!" raves several current Hillel
students.
